New Season Waxlip Orchids in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP : August 19 2025
Got a bit of blue sky today. Cancelled my catch up with my namesake - cold has hit the infectious stage. Do not want to inflict that on anybody. Got in the car to drive to National Park and use the dry time. Did take the umbrella

Headed to Murrua Trail in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP - old haunts- pea flower to start

First checkpoint - a cluster of greenhoods seen last walk. These are a little up fence where the blunt greenhoods were until they redid the truck parking area - budding now

Not what I thought - looks like pterostylis oblonga with the long point to the helmet. Similar to what we saw on the weekend

A few over the track photos - hakea

Red spider grevillea

Part of the mission for the walk - small waxlip orchids. Walked this track last week - none

Side on - now known as caladenia glossodia. Was known as glossodia minor

My name is parson's boots as it looks like a parson wearing wellies

Ground level yellow pea flower - a few about

Never seen water lying like this on the top of the slopes - plenty lower down - we have had a lot of rain

Walked off track under a big power pylon - budding sun orchid. Not quite sunny enough to open

Yep - just walk in to the grassy area beneath the pylons

The pylon photo also contained a yellow tailed black cockatoo - could hear its call. It is also in this photo - back speck up the left centre above the tree line

Coral heath flower - it is tiny and woolly

Grand shape to this scribbly gum on the edge of the track. Turnaround time to walk back. That track was super wet

No waxlips in the normal spot near that tree. Did find some further along off track - a new spot. Showing some rain wear

Different kind of wear. The parson has lost its boots

A bit more off track looking for a leek orchid spike seen last week. It has gone but this sun orchid was a bit further long. Still under the powerlines

Did find one nearly open. Spotted sun orchid - thelymitra ixioides

A different pea flower also low. These are normally well above ground - the yellow caught my eye.
Drove to the Bobbin Entrance of the NP to look for a specific orchid in a known spot

Found one open. It is the one I set out to find at the other gate - blunt greenhood - prerostylis curta

Hibbertia flower - who would guess that the first I see for a photo has a weevill chomping

Mini flannel flower

More under the powerlines photo work - a bit damp for waxlips here at this stage of a wet season

Grey spider grevillea

Next of the upcoming orchids on track side - most likely bearded orchids

Interesting fungal form. Ground to guess the parasol has fallen away leaving this shape
Was good to get out. Body is racked with cold.
Wife was out for a work dinner. I took the short cut for dinner - a bit of fried and airfryer stuff.

These are all cute
I wish to have them when I have a garden
Such a lovely read! The way you described the orchids and the changes in the park after the rain really makes me feel like I was there. Glad you were able to enjoy the outing even while recovering.

Besides the cold, I see that the rain has brought a lot of life to the area. The small flowers are beautiful and inspire you to take very nice photographs. I sense a good attitude from you, and that makes me think you'll get better soon. I hope that meeting with your namesake takes place soon. Happy day Mark! ✌️
This is where microphotography comes in handy, as the images become much clearer. These purple flowers are my favorite flowers, and I also see them in the nursery.
