Blackbutt Creek orchids : September 9 2025

Head is not in a good space. A bit slow to get moving today to do the bike - train - walk trip. Forecast for next few days is rubbish. Best get moving anyway that works - walk down to Blackbutt Creek

Spring friesias on the way down the hill

This fruit tree is showing resilience - two spikes out of the stump producing flowers

This is the same kookaburra seen last week. On the ground today - was happy for me to walk around the side to get photo of the blue flashes on the wings - 3 feet confident

Mission one accomplished - new opener on a cluster of chiloglottis trapeziformis

2nd opener in a cluster of 5 plants

Found a new spot for mayfly orchids - this one ending

Mayfly orchid - acianthus caudatus - close up. Did find a new plant here - one of three

Now for the common ant orchid photo challenge - focus up front

Or up behind - with small targets and coming in close it becomes a choice

Chiloglottis formicifera

Two chiloglottis orchids budding - ruffled leaf edges have me guessing

Found a nice cluster flowing down over the track edge toward the creek - also common ant orchids

Count the flowers - 5 showing - there were more

Close up - chiloglottis formicifera - note how the calli flow down the labellum. Note taken?

Upside down flower - did require photographer to step below the track to take photo from down below

A long way along the track to find these chiloglottis orchids - they look different. Calli do not splay all the way down the labellum like they would on formicifera

The helmet and the labellum are not in that tight parallel formation we see on trapeziformis

And the calli so look like a Brazillian - maybe a hybrid

Walked through the golf club to enquire about membership. Looks like we will be living here a lot longer than I hoped. Might as well slide into local living - got to find 2 members to sponsor me. I know nobody

Did work out why there have been no replies to last two messages to my daughter - she has gone to Italy for a wedding and to hike with her mum. Never knew she was a hiker

Back to Italy - macaroni cheese for dinner - nailed some remnant cheese
