Raindrops and teardrops day for my mother - RIP : September 10 2025

Got two days of rain lining up. Facebook memories reminded me of what happens this day each year - find an orchid to remember my mother who passed this day 5 years ago. Did the investing accounts in the morning. Rain eased off and there were signs of blue in the west. Checked the radar - a big gap between the line of rain on the coast and the line on the mountains. Got in the car with an idea - then the big rain hit. Did the shopping - was dry when I got out - head to the nearest NP to find that orchid. That was not the planned spot but it was close

Easy to puck the theme for the photos - raindrops - on the giant pea flower

Hibbertia - always hard to get focus working on the bright yellow

Not enough sun - like none - for the sun orchids to open - does have a raindrop.

Pink spider grevillea - onto the main track - just going to walk one out and back before the rain.

Saw the flash of white higher up the track than seen before - first for the season - fairy fingers orchid - caladenia alata

Matching leaf for the caladenia - a wispy thing like a blade of grass

Was expecting to find waxlip orchids - their petals discolour very quickly from the raindrops - maybe the chemicals in the rain

Side on - caladenia glossodia - I call them parson's boots - wellington boots

And one more - the flower is the size of a thumbnail - pretty small

Pink wax flower - always a tough photo - while it has good angles the detail washes away with the angles

A new life photo - new leaf forming - and a raindrop. Photographer had seen it

Spied a tear drop flower - almanac said to look. Took the photo of the twin a little off track

Just behind saw the back of a flash of white - knew straight away it was another fairy fingers orchid. Side on with a pollinator

This was the front on view - the insect is in place. The petals are maybe two match heads long and one wide

Matching leaf - hairy it is. Those photos got a reminder - reached for the phone - missing. Had to walk back toward last photo spot

The highlight of the walk - found fairy finger orchids in 3 new locations on the track

Found white fingers orchid not far from the gate - a new spot

Caladenia catenata

Turned into a good walk - 4 orchids found - did not rain - found my phone - got the shopping done. And the big rain came home after I got home

Friend for dinner - doing something different - veal marsala

Simple process - cook onion and garlic and mushrooms in oil till onion is translucent.

Add in the marsala - did not have any - made up a mix of muscat grape juice, Cointreau and port. Reduce that for a while - add in some chicken stock. Meanwhile cook the veges and pasta (I did rősti). Reduce that a bit more - say 5 minutes. Then add in the floured veal schnitzels - the sauce thickens with the flour. Do not overdo the flour - I did

Was a big day. Anniversaries are always hard. Friend for dinner was good - I love cooking for friends
