Recce walk on Warrimoo Track yields two orchids and more promised : September 12 2025

Woke to a blue sky day. Had ideas ti get out on a train - bike trip. Got busy doing desk things. Got a message about lunchtime that we were having dinner with friends a the local pub. That got me using the afternoon

Skipped the public transport ideas and took the car - hoping to find flying duck orchids and bearded orchids on this track - used to cycle here from our house in Turramurra

An innocuous enough photo - why take it? These two signs are new - and in the process they dug up the spot where two bearded orchids grew - gone

They did a hazard reduction burn this season - not a lot of flowers - pink wax flower

The Australian grass trees are flowering well - maybe they like the burn back aftermath

Snake orchid has survived the burn which ran all up the hollow trunk

First orchid of tha day - budding form - probably a sun orchid

Flying duck orchids budding - just two plants this season so far. I saved these from the reduction burn last year by creating a firebreak ahead of the burn

The reduction burn certainly reduced the Sydney boronia - they will be back next year - as will the ground orchids

A few flashes of blue off track - dampiera purpurea

And finally an open orchid - well it was a photographer challenge to get focus on a flower partly open. The column below is well visible - spotted sun orchid evidence above.

And then a bonus for the photographer - open view of the column

One of the four flowers - looks good with full afternoon light - no flowers open.

Sundew flower - super hard to get a good photo. Blocked out the sun. Flower is smaller than a US penny

Did find one lady fingers orchid - caladenia catenata. Have not seen these here before. Normally flower shows 4 fingers - not opened out to do that today.

To end the flowers for the day - pea flower. Good walk - got the recce done for upcoming orchids and I got out the house

Earned the reward of a Never Never gin. Great gin - would not normally buy one in the pub but they have been running promotions as they roll out across pubs across the country
