Historical Sydney building walk : January 7 2026

Said farewell to family. Did a bit of investing stuff including getting the weekly investing post out. Cooking up to a warm day. Took the train into the city to walk the water.

Stayed on the train to Town Hall to do the walk the other way to previous walks. Came out of a different exit - straight on to St Andrews Cathedral

Town Hall on the other side of the square. Walked down George Street on the shady side all the way to Central Station

Took photos of the old buildings along the way - Plaza Hotel

Some symbolism moulded into the top floor - now a karaoke bar - maybe Masonic

Resch Hotel. Resch was one of the old line lager beers - popular in the inner city in those times

A mish mash of architecture on this corner - column and blocky grey. No doubting what it is now - Irish flags and Scruffy Murphy's sign - Irish pub

A red brick Victorian oldie - now a shoe shop

Capital Square hotel

Old style bank building - now a Bank of China branch right on the edge of Chinatown

Chinatown entry towers - not been here in a long while

Took the photo for my son - he was a student at UTS. The tram line was built after he finished. He had to walk - no train. He writes "Woulda saved me many walks haha"

Walked along the edges of Darling Square and Darling Harbour - got some new angles on often photographed sites - Westin Hotel

Sky Tower and Citibank building - my last office block

World Tower - built since I arrived in Sydney

Another angle on Sky Tower on a cloudless and warm blue sky day

Kids enjoying the water fountains in Tumbalong Park. School holiday fun - get cool on a hot day

Walked the shady side along the road rather than along the water. American Express offices caught my eye - one of our key clients when we opened our office in Sydney. I only ever worked for them in UK

Tracked back to Wynyard Station to go home rather than walk in the sun to Barangaroo. Resisted the urge to pop in for a cold beer in the Sussex Hotel under the Harbour Bridge access road

Hot walk from Gordon Station home. A few things progressed

Did also get the weekly investing blog out- a big week for uranium

Did cook dinner - pasta with leftover Christmas ham - no photos
