This is "greener" (norden) part of Lanzarote. The other part have only rocks and sand, and more rocks 😉.

The volcanic origin of the islands is not denied.
Interestingly, the Azores also have volcanic origin, but are much more "green"

Azores have much taller mountains (up to 2600m) so they can stop clouds and get water. Fuerteventura and Lanzarote have maximum 500 meters tall mountain s, so all the clouds are just passing by.
Tenerife is tall too, so its also green.
