Jack Is Back

Its always sad to see a player call time on his career early especially when they showed so much promise. If we talk about Arsenal players who had injuries disrupt their potential there are many but 2 stand above all and that is Abou Diaby and Jack Wilshire, now both retired have to find a way to move on from what could have been and focus on what they can control.

After calling time on his playing days last week, the 30-year-old Jack is now back at Arsenal and looking to help the academy where his glittering career first started, and he admits the opportunity to develop more Jack Wilshere's for our first-team was the catalyst for him and he hopes to make the switch from player to manager in the future.

Reflecting on his new role, he said:

“A big part of my life was spent in the academy, and they were some of the best days of my life. My coach back then was Steve Bould and to walk in the footsteps of people like that is a massive honour. It's a big opportunity for me.

“Still being relatively young, I didn't expect my playing days to be done at this age, but when you get an opportunity like this given to you, it's hard to turn down. Per [Mertesacker], Luke [Hobbs] and the whole of the club have been amazing. They've shown confidence in me, and I'm really happy and excited for the new chapter.

“It’s a special feeling to be part of the Arsenal family. It never left me, and even though I moved on for a few years, my heart was always still at Arsenal. When I think of a family, family is always there for you no matter what. Even if you leave, the door is always open and I always felt that when I came back here.”

Last season saw Wilshere invited to start coaching at the academy, but he was still looking to secure playing time, Arteta didn't take him up on a return and he ended up in Denmark. Later that year he accepted the invite and he admitted that that experience was something he enjoyed and wanted to work with the under-18s.

I wish him well and I hope he makes good of the second chance at a career in football. He still has age on his side so lets hope this won't be the last time we hear from o'l Jacky boy.
