A good start to the day, Don't you think?

After a "good enough" sleep, I figured I could parkrun a bit of a go this morning.

My belly felt uncomfortable because I didn't manage to have a bowel movement before I needed to leave the house. (If you're a runner, you'll know how freakin' annoying this can be. And if you're not, you'll probably think this is too much information. Haha. Oh, well!)

Once I made the decision to try and work a bit during my run, instead of my default of just "taking it easy", I thought I better do something of a warm up.

So, I skipped the run brief that I've heard, literally, hundreds of times already and did a 4 minute warm up instead.

I got back just in time to weave through the crowd of what turned out to be 87 runners and walkers, and started my run near ish to the front of the pack.

Then I worked.

I worked my legs.

I worked my heart.

I worked my lungs.

And I listened.

I listened to my breathing and when it got too hard, I walked those uphills.

I listened to the wisdom in my body that told me when the discomfort in my gut became too painful, and I walked those sections.

And I listened to the footfalls of others as they got close to overtaking me, and used that as a personal cue to check in and see if I could run some more.

Most of the time, the answer was, "yes".

29 minutes and 57 seconds later, I was running between the flags at the end of this 5 kilometre trail run that, with 90 metres of elevation gain and loss, is harder than most parkruns in Australia.

I was drenched in sweat, despite wearing as little clothing as I can comfortably get away with, and was grateful for the sweet, cold "Zooper Dooper" (ice block) that was offered to me.

Run, done!

...

Did you run today? If there's a parkrun near you, did you parkrun today?!
