FloraArt 2025 - Festival of flowers

avatar

Hello everyone :)!

Today was one of those perfect spring days when the weather just insists you go outside and so I did (usually I spend my weekends on Žumberak but I spent this one in Zagreb) I dragged my dad along (or maybe he dragged me..?) to the 59th edition of FloraArt, held as always at the wonderful Bundek park in Zagreb :)! If you’ve never been to anything similar just imagine a sea of flowers stretching across a lakeside park, sunshine warming your shoulders (wear SPF FRIENDSSS!!!!) , and every type of plant you can think of almost in full bloom. That’s FloraArt to you😆.

This year, the weather was very sunny, very warm… honestly, borderline too hot😭. But I won’t complain too much, because 1. the sunshine made all the colors pop and the whole place looked like a real-life floral fairytale and 2. I suffer because of harsh weather changes so the sun was a real treat to me :). Everywhere you turned there were roses, orchids, succulents, bonsais(❤️), tulips, hydrangeas, exotic palms etc. There were even displays where art and nature collided: incredible sculptures made entirely of flowers and greenery, many of them part of a competition for best floral design. First, second, and third places were awarded, and let me tell you it must have been tough to choose!!

These were so cute to me!!

This one is like a galaxy!

One of the highlights of the day for me was a surprise performance by a wind orchestra! They played a beautiful arrangement of a few Goran Bare songs, and it genuinely left me speechless, they were A M A Z I N G!!! I’ve always loved wind orchestras, and this group was so well coordinated, there were even elementary school kids playing aahh they were so cute :). But I also felt a bit bad for them, playing in the direct sun😭??? They couldn’t get them something to keep the sun away? That’s dedication tho, but I hope someone handed them water and meals afterward.

You can see their performance on this link!

Beyond the flowers, FloraArt also offers plenty of opportunities to shop for plants, seeds, garden tools, and even food. There were fresh fruits and veggies for sale, including hot peppers I had my eye on… but unfortunately, they looked a little too sun-
kissed (read: dried out😞), so I decided to pass and get them elsewhere. I mean, if I’m going to spend money, I want the spiciest bang for my euros🤣!

Speaking of prices…. daaaamnnnnn man.. I think this is just Croatian prices. Let’s just say the range was wide. The cheapest thing I spotted was a lonely chili pepper for just 0.50€, while the most expensive was a massive olive tree for 350€. Honestly, considering its size and how mature it looked, it wasn’t that outrageous. But it still gave me a moment of shock 😳.

This is the 200€ palm and 350€ olive tree :)!

There were also small educational corners that made me smile! I was the only grown up around kids that wanted to take part🤣🤣. There was one specially interesting corner where I saw two adorable turtles chilling and munching on their salad. it was a zoo corner that showed how animals rely on vegetation in their habitats, and it made the whole experience feel more alive and thoughtful.

Now, for my proudest purchase of the day: a gorgeous rose bush for only 13.99€! What made it even sweeter was seeing the exact same one being sold at another stand for 35€ (wtf)!?!?!? You can imagine the smug little smile I did in my head🤣.

I’ve been going to FloraArt for years now, and it always brings me joy. Sure, some prices make you blink twice, and not everything is worth grabbing on the spot, but the atmosphere? Unbeatable. It’s not just about plants it’s more about the people, art, music, and spending time outside with a sense of peace :)

Already looking forward to next year!
