Sounds like they have a bit of a vermin issue! I've had pet rats before, but they are totally different from the wild ones that get in and destroy things. I'm glad you were able to help them. Hopefully they can set some traps so they can't do this again.

And with you as well, @maxdevalue! I love animals; I always have and if I could have a refuge for them, I would! The standing joke is that I have a neon sign over my house that only animals can see that says "Beth takes strays". I've had as many as 20 cats at one time; I've been a vet tech for many of our animals when they got sick-from giving IV's to daily shots of antibiotics and B vitamins. It's been and interesting and crazy ride for sure.
