Hi folks,

Today was a pretty sedentry one for me.

Quiet weekend at home.

Spent most of the time on my laptop, learning about EndeavourOS and about how to do things in Linux from the command line, like setup a Storj Tardigrade account and verify a GPG signature.

It's all new to me and the learning curve is steep. So far so good though.

The laptop is a HP Elitebook 820 that I got fairly cheap off eBay because the lid is damaged. I honestly don't care about that though. It works well for what I want.

It had Windows 10 installed when I bought it, which I used for a time.

Eventually though, a forced silent update one night completely ruined it. The next day I went to use it, and it was laughably broken.

It's amusing, at least to me, that an update to an operating system, pushed out by a huge multinational corporation, for it's flagship product, could effectively destroy the usability of said operating system.

Kind of flies right in the face of the whole notion and purpose of 'updating' software.

It would still turn on, but it took about 10 tries to log in. And then there were some major errors when I did get to the desktop.

The touchpad had stopped functioning completely, and the start menu wouldn't open.

I'd click it, and it would seem to try, then an error message popped up saying: 'the start menu is not working, try again next time you log in'.

The kind of inscrutable, utterly useless error message that would be infuriating if it weren't so absurd.

Logging out and back in again made no difference, of course.

I could have taken the time to search for and apply different solutions online, whittling through the options until I'd figured it out.

But in my eyes it just wasn't worth it.

So I decided to try a Linux distribution. After a small amount of Internet searching, I chose EndeavourOS.

And the rest they say, is history...

Well actually no, that's just a bullshit cliché I'm using because I want to move on from the whole laptop tangent.

...

So in the afternoon I went for a walk around the block with my darling. We decided to go down a particular road where a bunny lives.

It's a bunny we first came across a couple of months ago, and that I first wrote about on November 2nd.

'Pepper' the bunny

Here's a photo from today of aforementioned bun.

So I'll tell the story...

My darling and I were taking a walk, following neighbourhood roads.
We strolled down a street, steep and tree-lined; houses and lawns on each side.
Underneath canopy, at the bottom of hill, we both stop at once. Unexpected delight, in the fading daylight, a bun grazing under the sun.

Do you like my attempt at making some kind of poem-like rhyming type thing?

We're both very fond of rabbits. We got two for pets shortly after we first moved in together. They're no longer with us, having lived out their lives, but we look back on that time and all the joyful memories.

It was really fortuitous, as the place we lived in was perfectly suited for keeping rabbits.

They had free range of the backyard and could come and go into the house whenever they pleased through a cat-door in the laundry door.

...

So anyway, back to when we first saw the bunny in today's picture.

We'd stopped for a moment, slightly perplexed as to why this rabbit was wandering the streets, as it was clearly a domesticated breed, judging by the colour of it's coat.

We were worried it was missing from home and wondering what we could do to help.

Another couple was taking a walk and had come down the hill behind us as we stood there.

To our relief, they started walking towards their house, which was across the front lawn that this rabbit was grazing upon.

"Is this your bun?" I asked as they went past.

"Oh, nah..." replied the bloke, "That rabbit just lives on this street."

...

So now if we go for a walk near dusk, we like to go down this road and see how the bunny is going.

We don't know anything about it, but for the sake of conversation we say it's a girl and we've named her 'Pepper'.

So there ya go.

Next time we go I'm going to take a couple of almonds with me.

Our rabbits used to love 'em.
