Very unusual food in the province of Si Sa Ket... my training diary entry from March 27 2026

(I've barely been here a day and I've already made new animal friends. Here you can see "Dam," which means black in Thai.)
Hi Actifitters,
after being a bit worn out after a full day in the taxi the day before yesterday, I only had something to eat and drink in the evening. Yesterday, I started my first day well-rested.
While yesterday didn't offer much more than food and drink, what was available to eat was a little unusual for my standards.
I tried a soup with squirrel meat and also something the Thais call "Kai mot daeng." This is a dish consisting mainly of the eggs of large red ants.
I stuck to two spoonfuls each and limited myself to an omelet and rice, but it definitely didn't taste as bad as I had feared.
Aside from my walking, I probably won't be doing much physical activity today. The temperatures are simply too high for my European constitution.
My wife's brothers are currently working on a new cabin here on the property. I might help out a little later.

Eggs of large red ants!!! I really want to know how large those eggs are? 🤗
They are up to 4 or even 5 millimeters... the ants are really big
Thanks :) !WINE
With the right seasoning, ant eggs might not be so bad 🤔. I'd try it too.
There are definitely things in this world that sound a bit strange to me... 😁
Food is such a strange world… sometimes I think about those dishes I see online, typical of certain regions, with meats and other things I’m not sure I’d ever eat. I’ve followed YouTubers who try all sorts of so‑called bizarre foods, and their content is fun but also a bit unsettling — at least for me. But it all depends on the perspective you look at things from.
True... Different countries, different customs ;)
