From my chamber: Another patient with allergy

In Oman, among the construction workers, cement allergy is one of the most common problems for which they go to a doctor. A good number of patients with similar problems roam from doctor to doctor for getting relief from their skin allergy but unfortunately, they don't get the cure. Because they can't follow the golden rule for allergy management, that is "avoidance of the allergens". For doing so they need to switch the job which is not feasible for every worker.

Today morning one Bangladeshi construction worker came with severe allergy in his both hands. Besides the construction work, he also does some painting works. He uses hand gloves during work. But his allergy keeps bothering him. When he couldn't tolerate it anymore, he came to me.

It was a clear-cut cement allergy. The painting chemicals would have contributed as well in developing the allergy. I explained to him what to do. He went to other doctors before. But seeing his expression, it looked like he was hearing the "explanation" for the first time.

By the way, as a treatment option (more precisely, temporary symptoms relieving option) I gave him a steroid injection, antihistamine tablet and steroid ointment. In Oman, we are using Inj Diprofos, which is quite good and high potency and rapid symptoms reliever. But in most instances, the symptoms return.
