From my chamber: A grandma with geriatric illness 

Today morning a 78 years old Omani grandma came with her son to my clinic with multiple complaints. Chest and upper abdominal pain, breathing difficulties, legs swelling, cough etc. were her complaints. She came one month earlier with almost similar problems. According to his son, they went to another hospital and did some investigations 2 weeks ago for the same problems. Her symptoms were fluctuating; sometimes little better, another time worse.

I checked her chest which was full of abnormal sounds indicating infections or something worse. Her legs were swollen till the knee which indicates heart failure or other abnormalities. Her oxygen saturation at open-air was 84% which was quite low while the normal limit is above 96-97%. In nutshell, she had all the symptoms which indicated serious pathology in her body.

She was a perfect candidate to be treated in a multi-disciplinary hospital. But judging from the talk of her son, they were quite fade up in roaming from hospital to hospital. They just wanted something to relieve her symptoms.

I gave nebulization with oxygen along with a few injectable medicines. But I strongly advised her son to take her to a higher centre.
