From my chamber: A suspected case of COVID19 | IAAC #5

avatar

Hello, friends on hive! Hope that you are having a fantastic time. I am also fine, Alhamdulillah.

This is going to be 5th post for I am Alive challenge, started by @flaxz. It is also my today's @actifit report.

At first, I am going to share a case history of a patient visited me today.

He was a middle-aged Omani patient. For the last 3 days, he was suffering from cold, cough, throat pain and headache. Yesterday onwards he was passing loose motion, with abdominal pain. Today he vomited more than once. He had a history of contact with a suspected COVID19 case.

On examination, he looked lethargic and fatigued. He didn't have any fever. However, he had features of pharyngitis/sore throat. He also had mild abdominal pain. Despite having diarrhoea and vomiting, his blood pressure, heart rates and hydration status were normal.

Considering his symptoms and contact history, he was a suspected case of COVID19. He himself had the suspicion. However, due to financial reason (end of the month), he didn't want to do the PCR test. So, I gave the necessary treatment and send him for the home isolation. I also informed him of the danger signs and asked him to go to the higher centre if anything danger signs develop during the period of isolation.

It is one of the realities in private practice. We cannot do everything according to the guidelines. This patient needed the PCR test. But, it didn't happen.

Hope that he becomes well soon.

Every day I am treating patients with various symptoms and diseases. But I am fine without any diseases and symptoms. What else is needed to be grateful to Allah (My Creator)?

I am alive today with perfect health and a sound mind. Alhamdulillah.

Today no win.

Good to know you did your best for the patient. It’s a shame when financial constraints impacts people’s lives this way. Hopefully he overcomes it. Over 10k steps is a good count.

Most of the Omanis don't bother about the cost when it comes to treatment for any illness. That's what I saw in the last 4 years in Oman. However, regarding coronavirus PCR test, the figures are just opposite. Some people have genuine reasons (lack of money, as in my patient), where others think it as a waste of money.

Thanks for stopping by.

yes, not everyone can afford the tests. As a doctor you try to do your best to help them.

I am happy to hear that you are in good health and doing the good work.

Hope the person you treated recovers and hopefully takes a test next month and do the right thing.

Take care and stay safe

And Happy new year in advance.

Good point. There is a antibody test, which can be done after 3-4 weeks of the initial disease to see if the disease was due to COVID19 or not.

Thanks again. Have a wonderful day :)
