My Actifit Report Card: June 13 2025
3 species of birds spread wildfires by carrying burning branches in their mouths when they see a fire! The story of birds spreading fire has long been prevalent in the folklore of Australian aborigines. Firefighters witnessed the first such incident in the Australian forest between 2011-2017. Three species of birds do this. Black kite (Milvus migrans), whistling kite (Haliastur sphenurus) and brown falcon (Falco berigora). They are called 'firehawks'. When there is a fire somewhere, they pick up burning branches from there. They take them to grassy areas where the fire has not reached. Insects, reptiles, and small mammals are the food of these birds. During fires, they run outside. The birds mainly do this to hunt them.
