Judgment Day
Well, something that has been going on for months—and that I haven’t blogged about until now—is (hopefully) over.
I won a small claims case today. I didn’t get the full amount I was asking for, but that’s fine. I intentionally asked for more than I expected to receive, leaving room to negotiate a settlement. The defendant did make a lowball offer, and I believe he negotiated in bad faith. What I was awarded in the judgment is exactly what the law says I deserved.
He now has 30 days to pay the judgment. If he doesn’t, I’ll begin the process of trying to collect.
I can almost guarantee he’ll try to avoid paying. It wouldn’t surprise me if he files an appeal.
Anyway, I finally get to take a break from playing lawyer. The ball is in his court for the next 30 days.

You need an order from the court that includes 'let execution issue', then take the order to the sheriff and he will auction off stuff until the debt is met.
