Nice man! I'm curious how many of the eggs hatched? I work for a poultry company as a breeder service tech, so was wondering if her percent hatch was better than ours 😂
10 out of 11 :) tho that 1 might of been without rooster's magic sprinkles xD I bought these from people who live near us and have a few flocks of the breed we liked. I doubt they check with that light thing whether all eggs are fertilized :)
Well hell that's pretty much 91% which is damn good. Depending on the breed, our peak hatch, usually around 40 weeks old, might hit 91% for a week or two but usually is around 88-89% and then drops from there.
No rooster magic sprinkles will definitely hurt your chances 😂 😂
Yea I don't blame them, but if the eggs were real young when you got them, the light wouldn't have told you anyways. I forget how old the egg has to be before you can see the chick developing. Say it's an egg less than a week old - the only way to tell if it's fertilized is to crack it open and look at the yolk (there's probably a more scientific way, but that's how I know, haha)
Yeah, I was surprised too at this number. Wasn't expecting that high :)
Oh, I thought u could see with that light thing right away. But I haven't really looked into it :D I think I saw somewhere in the movie and assumed that that's the way and how it's done :D
One thing growers will do with the light is make sure the pointy end of the egg is down - where the air bubble is on top. All you do is hold a flashlight right up against the egg and you can see the bubble. If we are injecting eggs and it's upside-down, it will kill the chick immediately since they're not facing the right way and the needle hits them wrong. An egg can still hatch if it's upside-down (and we don't inject) but has a slightly less chance. Not sure you were looking for a lesson on hatching eggs today, but you got one, lol. I get all excited when I have a chance to talk about it, haha.
But yea, once the egg reaches a certain age - you can use a light to see if there's a chick in it, so you definitely weren't wrong!
:) lessons are great! I love getting them! ;)
Haha well good! Damn, you must have either woke up as early as I did or up way too late 😂
No wait, jk, I forgot you weren't in the US. Damn timezones
