Sunset On Open Water - Actifit: March 26 2021

Ah! The ice has receded enough that sunsets, clouds and sky now reflect on the open water. It takes my breath away.

I love the change of seasons. I really mean that. I love the change itself. I don’t need it to be warm and springlike to be happy. I love watching the ice melt and the grass begin to change from gold to green right before my eyes. I love the entire transformation process, as if I’m watching a butterfly emerge from its cocoon.

It’s easy to wish for something more or different than what we have right now — to feel as though something must happen for contentment to be possible, and that whatever that thing is (better weather, more money, better friends, a nicer home, etc.), it’s somewhere else. It’s not this day, this place or this moment.

The trick is to say, “Here I am in this place and time, with these circumstances, whatever they may be, and it’s good enough. I’m going to enjoy it. Because who knows what tomorrow may bring.”

Like this muskrat, just sitting at the place where the ice meets the water, happy that as long as the ice holds out he still has a place to sit and enjoy his supper.
