My Actifit Report Card: April 19 2021

There’s been a bird that harasses me on my morning walk the past couple days. If I had to guess, it’s guarding a nest or something, but I can’t really tell where it comes at me from. It’s definitely trying to drive me off by taking very close passes at my back as I walk by.

Honestly, it actually feels kind of nice because I’ve been feeling warm during my morning walks. It gets so close that it’s practically fanning me with its wings. It’s a pretty small bird, too, probably about the size of my fist.

I’m going to push my walks a half-hour earlier because I’ve been waking up before my alarm goes off and just tossing and turning in bed (i.e. wasting time). Not sure if that’ll change how the bird goes after me or not, but it should make it less warm.

Didn’t get much writing done today, and I think this week will generally be hit or miss as I focus on classwork and getting caught up on reading stuff.

In addition to what I’m doing for classes, I’m working through von Mises’ On Human Action, which is a great little read.

In particular, I think that he has a lot of things that are great take-downs of errors in thought that have persisted to the modern day (e.g. polylogism) that were problems back in the time he fled Austria to avoid the fascist regime there.

While I think of it first and foremost as an economics book, it’s got some elements of history and sociology as well, so there’s lots of stuff that I find interesting throughout it.

One of the things that I have going on with my classes is working on getting my website up to the standards I’m trying to get it to (since one of my classes is on writing for websites and blogs, and they have us start with our own), which is kind of awkward because I’m not sticking to my blog writing schedule while I scramble to get some of the other stuff done.

All the same, I think it’s going to be fairly simple. For one class, it’s largely a matter of assembling things I already have into one cohesive submission, and for the other it’s largely going to come down to taking the work in chunks.

The challenging bit is just making sure that I don’t miss anything in the feedback I’ve gotten, because I desperately want to get an A in each class. My grades are usually quite good; so far there has been only a single class I’ve gotten a B in and that was due to having a massive pile of personal stuff going on during the final week and having to submit a largely unfinished assignment that didn’t get the grade I would have gotten had I been able to put more time and effort into the assignment.

Other than that, I did some cooking today. Air-fried chicken and barbecue macaroni and cheese.

One of those is fairly healthy and one of those is definitely not. The macaroni and cheese isn’t anything fancy; I bought a bunch of Kraft boxed stuff back when COVID started and now it’s expiring and I want to use it up before bugs or exotic varieties of mold get into it.

The problem is that I’ve got quite a few boxes, so no matter what I do I’m left with a lot of stuff that I shouldn’t really be eating, but I was raised with too strict of an upbringing to waste food.

Fortunately, I’ve been losing some weight because I’ve been making myself behave better with regards to snacks between meals and keeping up with my physical activity.
