Postcards from Thailand #18: My Acti-No-Beer Report Card: May 7 2023

I had it all planned out. The wife was going to the cinema with a friend and I was going to sit in a bar next door, have a couple of cheeky shandies and watch the football.

The timing was perfect. A 2 hour movie that started at 8.55pm, the game started at 9pm but it wasn't to be as the spurious Thai alcohol laws came into play!

There are a few times a year when alcohol sales are banned and the bars have to close, usually on Buddhist holidays but as we have a general election next Sunday, sales of alcohol are banned from 6pm Sat to 6pm Sunday this week and next.

To the casual observer, there is no rhyme and reason to this...come to think of it, there is no rhyme and reason to this by anyone's standard except for the guy who made the rule and no one knows who that is.

I guess they think that all Thais are normally pissed and unable to make a sensible choice of candidate unless stone cold sober, makes no difference, all the politicians here are a bunch of idiots. God knows, just another TiT moment we have to accept!

Anyway, at least I got to watch the game sat in the cool air conditioned cinema foyer on my phone and even had some coke and cheesy popcorn in peace for the full 90minutes.

It wasn't the result I wanted, a 2-1 loss to City as relegation is a serious and definite possibility with just 3 games to go but at least we didn't ship a shed-load again.

It's not been a happy season..again...as a Leeds fan but while ever there's a ball to be kicked, we'll be shouting and screaming the mighty Leeds on. All we ever ask is they sweat blood for the badge.

We even had a late night game of 10pin bowling, which I also lost but at least I got to walk up the cool illuminated stairs in the photo.

I do love Thailand :-)
