My Actifit Report Card: February 25 2020

avatar

I rode my e-bike down to the eighteen basket course for some practice today. I threw three drives off the tee and played each spot for fun. It resulted in a lot more throwing than usual for the eighteen basket course. I also got a good feel for the way the different discs work.

Having the new bag is nice because I can carry over twenty discs and this gives me a wide range of discs to select from. If I miss a shot in practice I can try it again with corrections with another disc.

I have to be careful to get them all back in the bag though so I try not to make so many throws that I don't remember where all of them go.

Here's a picture showing the new tee pads that we just put in:

I like them but I need to remember to pick up my feet more because they can be grabby on my new shoes. If your shoe does not slide just a bit sometimes it can throw your throw off by preventing your foot from moving as much.

Toe dragging on your throw in disc golf is really not the best form anyway. It is best to be picking up your feet and not sliding them on the surface. I've worn out a lot of shoes when starting to throw and not getting my feet planted right.

Here's a picture of one spot where I made an uphill putt through a couple of trees:

I was feeling a little better about my putting today.

You can see some damage on the trunk on the tree on the right. A lot of the trees around here seem to be having some issues around the base. A couple big trees have fallen down this season.

Here's a picture of the trunk of the tree that just fell down recently:

It seems pretty unhealthy and damaged but I'm not an expert on what these trees are usually like.

Throwing Putter Discs

I've been liking to throw my overstable putter disc on a lot of the baskets on the course. I was playing with some friends the other day and came up to the tee with a putter.

"Are you sure you want to throw that? You do know that's 260 feet down there to the basket right? You better throw a different disc." I heard from the peanut gallery, lol.

Well, since disc golf is such a mental game I thought it best to switch to a control driver. I tossed it at the basket and it did alright but faded a lot into the trees.

"Now try the putter," said my friend.

Not feeling the same level of confidence I shanked that into a nearby tree.

"See, what did I say, you owe me one," said my friend.

With the same shot today I went up to the tee with my Harp putter in hand and threw a perfect shot right up the gap in the trees and parked it under the basket. LOL.

Yes, I can throw a putter 260 feet. It is not always going to work out though because I'm kind of inconsistent. If I had a nice midrange I would likely use that.

In a narrow tunnel shot with the basket behind a tree it works pretty well to over drive the putter. By throwing it really hard it turns up a bit and drifts to the right before fading back at the end. Basically your turning an overstable throwing putter into an understable midrange by throwing it too hard. (It seems like to me anyway.)
