Oh my! That wouldn't be the most comfortable thing to be travelling in. I was so going to do something similar with the Mrs before we had kids. I had bought a Ford Kuga and planned on driving up the east coast and sleeping in a tent that attached to the door. We didn't end up doing it as the car ended up being a lemon.
I've previously driven the east coast, than across to Darwin and straight down the centre. I would not recommend it to anything. Absolutely nothing for 3 days and hot as hell.
I've also done the Nullarbor. Melbourne through SA is decent but then again. Days of Absolutely nothing.
Drives you insane. Wonder how the truckies feel.

I know about the long traveling distance between anything much as I've traveled much of Australia.
Must be a good adventure with lots of stories to share, would make excellent blog posts
