My Actifit Report Card: March 26 2024 - A Day of Unexpected Errands and a Bit of Good News
Today wasn't exactly the relaxing day I'd envisioned.
My son had his driving theory exam in Maastricht, the capital of our province.
Since it was a 40-minute drive, Mom and I had planned a shopping trip there.
However, with Dad in the hospital, that wasn't an option.
So, at sunrise, I found myself driving my son south for his exam.
Thankfully, singing along on the return trip helped the time fly by (though my son wasn't as enthusiastic in the morning!).
Back home for a brief moment, Mom quickly enlisted me as her chauffeur.
Deciding to make the most of it, I borrowed my brother's car (filling the tank in Belgium for a nice €21 saving).
My first stop was a German supermarket – their prices are unbeatable!
After conquering my grocery list, it was back home, then off to pick up my son in Maastricht.
The wait was nerve-wracking – had he passed his exam?
Relief washed over me as I saw his wide grin from afar.
We celebrated with a McDonalds drive-thru – a milkshake for me, fries, cola and nuggets for him.
He still has to wait a few months for his practical exam (time for more driving lessons!), but for now, he's one step closer to his license.
After dropping off my son, it was time to visit Dad in the hospital.
He looked much better, with color returning to his face and a renewed sense of humor.
While another surgery may be on the horizon, we'll know more tomorrow.
Exhausted, Dad eventually dozed off, signaling the end of visiting hours.
Just as I thought I was heading home, Mom had other plans.
We browsed stores, her convinced Dad needed a third pair of pajamas (seriously, Mom?).
My legs ached (10,015 steps!), but at least dinner – a delicious chicken wrap – awaited.
While not the relaxing day I planned, it was filled with unexpected errands and the wonderful news of my son passing his exam.

That's actually huge savings. How's the price in German superstores?
Jawdropping somethimes 😂
For example, a bottle of Dove shower gel costs €2.95 in Germany, but a whopping €8.21 here in the Netherlands!
The same goes for beverages – Sprite is nearly three times the price here (€1.58 per liter) compared to Germany (€0.55).
Other grocery items like meat and bread seem comparable though.
In short, I gladly cross the border to Germany and Belgium to stock up on groceries and fuel.
You are so lucky and yes, that's a tempting jaw-dropping price. I live in Almere so things are pretty expensive here. If I go to Germany again, surely gonna visit superstores to buy things...
