My Actifit Report Card: September 3 2025

Here in the UK after a very long dry spell, this week we’ve finally had rain and quite a lot of it. The hedgerows have been parched for so long, that yesterday I noticed how they were recovering, looking partly dead but with the signs of recovering quite quickly with persistent rain.

I went to a really good science show last night and caught up with an old friend of mine. It was called “The Average Scientist - Wonders of our Universe” which was presented by two fellows of the royal astronomical society, physicists. They used a combination of visuals, great music and story telling to break down some very complex theory. It was very well put together and I came away understanding a lot more. The section on relativity, Einstein theory was very good in particular. Black holes and wormholes make a lot more sense!

Look up Spaghettification folks!

Spaghettification is such a fun doorway into relativity, and now I’m oddly craving pasta. Awesome that the music and stories helped it click. Did they share an everyday analogy for black holes that really stuck with you?

Yes! One description was that they are like storms in time, that was really good.

The weather has really changed. The science show sounds like fun. I ought to look out for talks like that around here. These days there is no local paper to let you know what is going on, but I see some on Facebook. We're going to see Bill Bailey again soon.

It was very good and had no idea what to expect. Local papers don’t exist anywhere to be honest and their websites are an abomination!

Bill Bailey is an absolute favourite of ours and we’ve been to see him in the past. So funny and his musical interludes are the best!

First time seeing such a word, Spaghettification, I'm going to use it to flex when my friends come over today

Scientists use it to describe what happens to something when it falls into a black hole, due to the way in which it stretches time.

I'm loving the rain actually. I've been more productive because I'm not tempted to go outside and laze around instead :)
