My Actifit Report Card: May 23 2020

So I walked to the post office to mail a couple of packages today, and was looking for some lavender and peppermint to add to my balcony grove.

I managed to find seeds for lavender, but neither starts nor seeds for peppermint. Sigh! I checked both Ace and Wildflowers. The guy at Wildflowers told me the nurseries are pretty much empty. Everyone is pandemic gardening!

I will check Sprouts for peppermint next time I go. They usually have potted herbs. Wish me luck!

At least I got the lavender and my errand done. Now to plant those seeds! :)

Wish I could give you some mint cuttings. I'm growing peppermint, spearmint, corsican mint, and strawberry mint in containers. Also lemon balm and lemon verbena, both great for starting new plants with cuttings or dividing the rootball.

Lavender is such a tricky one to grow, and it's very slow and temperamental about maintaining perfect moisture and light once it sprouts. I did manage to get one seedling to survive a few years ago. Now the plant is so strong, I probably couldn't kill it with a lawnmower. I clip it down often into the shape of a bonsai bush.

I had a couple of neighbors offer up some mint cuttings, so I'll be picking them up soon. :) That's good to know about the lavender! Hopefully I can get it established.
