Well hello there Hive fam! It's been a while since I've made a post, but I actually got steps yesterday so here I am (woo)! I'm not gonna lie, I have been mostly bedridden for a while. It's not the 'rona, just my usual chronic illness kicking my ass. Ergo the lack of posts. BUT, yesterday I went grocery shopping, and then I did a little first footing for Samhain, which began at sundown. :)
Samhain is the Celtic new year, and while traditionally, "first footing" is about who the first one to step over your threshold is (I think it's supposed to be good luck if it was a tall, dark haired man), for me I do it that I want my threshold area to be cleaned. Don't want to start the new year with the detritus of the old, you know. So I swept the whole little alcove leading up to my stoop, and the stoop too, of course.
I cleaned my little front door altar, and dumped out the old salt and incense stick stubs and ash onto the earth where there were no plants growing. Salt absorbs negative energy, and that's what I stand my offering incense in out there. Putting it onto the earth, the earth transmutes that energy. :)
Then I washed that dish, added fresh salt, and burned the first incense of the new year in it.
Did the rest of my little ritual after that, but the cleaning (and grocery shopping) was where I got the steps, lol.
