Last Day on the Island and Coming Back

This weekend we were really lucky with the weather, all three days that we were on the island the weather was absolutely gorgeous!

It was a little cold at thirty nine degrees today, but it is almost December! Today we visited historic downtown Langley on Whidbey Island and had some ice-cream in the almost freezing weather.

We also stopped by the Whidbey Island Pie company and picked up the last pumpkin pie that they had. Since I am not the biggest fan of pumpkin pie, I also took a sour cherry pie slice.

There were lots of people in downtown Langley, we had a hard time finding a spot to park. And the guy selling pies said that it was even worse on Wednesday. They had a huge line into the shop and had to stay open later than their official hours so that people in line can get their pies...

We also walked on the Langley waterfront boardwalk, but the tide was high, so we were not able to get down to the beach like we were planning.

Still it was nice to finish off the weekend with one more fun little adventure. Then we headed to the ferry to make sure that we get off the island before the crowds start leaving. It is easy to get stuck waiting for the ferry for an hour or two.

Coming to the island we didn't check ferry waiting times, so we ended up waiting for about an hour for our ferry. We were really surprised by it as it was on a black Friday and off season and we didn't expect to see so many people trying to make it to the island.

From now on we decided that I will always check before we head out to the island. The reason is that we can take another route that makes more sense when a ferry backup is present. It is around one hundred mile drive through the Deception Pass that avoids the ferry.

We are still learning how to best get to the Whidbey Island in different times of the year.

And tomorrow it is back to work and back to school for our daughter. We both had a really nice mini vacation this Thanksgiving week. I am driving her to school tomorrow morning as my wife has some early work calls tomorrow and after school she will pick her up from school.

Pretty good steps today once again, and tomorrow I am planning to do another weight lifting workout and a shopping trip for groceries.
