Diggers and a fall: January 30 2022

I love it when you go round the Garden and discover diggers or cherry pickers hidden away behind a barrier. Not a very serious barrier, mind, anyone with a bit of brute strength could have got to them. They looked very pretty anyway.

Back at The Knoll, which used to house the main offices and was used for social events and classes, all is very quiet. I hadn't noticed these hoppers and downpipes before, embossed with initials and 1907.

Peering through the windows, it looks a bit sad and bereft, now that it's empty. The curtains were looking faded and tattered, every bit like something from Wuthering Heights. It if gets any more rundown we'll have @slobberchops and the UrbEx crew turning up for a shufti. (Hope I'm loitering innocently at the time and can tailgate them inside).

It was a bit grim out, I kept passing and re-passing the same little families, Mums busy trying to prevent their offspring from eating potentially toxic everything, like when you insist in going the wrong way round the supermarket.

Taking the shortcut through the halls of residence at the top end of the garden, I turned suddenly, realising there was no path where I had intended to go, and tripped on a concrete ramp - a difference in height of two or three inches - and headed straight down onto the concrete path like Thierry Henri taking a dive. My, did it hurt. I lay there for a few moments, with the proverbial stars circling around my head, waiting for the sky to stop moving and wondering who was making that dreadful groaning noise.

Eventually the pain in my knees and right side subsided and I was able to sit up but it was a while before I worked out how to get back up and there was nothing near by to grab. A brief inspection showed no damage to my clothes, although I discovered today my gloves were badly scuffed - good thing I was wearing them.

I am sporting the most glorious bruise on my knee, quite the largest I have ever had in that area, and bruises all down my right side. I'm alright as long as I'm not immobile for too long. Barely any grazes, though, which just goes to show that wearing thermal leggings and thick cotton joggers topped by a longline puffer coat is a jolly good thing.

Saved by the Puffa jacket! It's amazing though what you see when you look up, even at buildings that are familiar.

Rest up and take care. Glad you didn't have more serious injuries .

Thank you 🙂

I'd love to have a look inside, it must have been beautiful in its original state. Sadly, the last time I was in the hall, it had been institutionalised with notices everywhere and things boarded up. I think the University is going to sell it, so I guess it will be converted to high-spec flats. It would be a lovely environment to live in.
