Why it's good to ride a bike? My Actifit Report Card: March 17 2020

Hello buddies!

I did 16k steps today!

I was staying home all day, but I could not sit anymore in the evening so I went outside and rode my bike. I drove to my small town and took some photos.

Why it's good to ride a bike?

  1. It keeps the joints
When you ride a bike, you shift all your weight to the strong pelvic bones. When you walk or run, the weight shifts to your feet causing your joints to fall. Cycling is good for all people who have problems with joint pain or arthritis, says Dr. Claire Safran-Norton of Harvard Hospital.

  2. Provides aerobic exercise
Aerobic exercise is characterized by a very moderate intensity and they are primarily aimed at improving health. Cycling is a great form of aerobic exercise for pedaling that improves the heart and brain, and has a great effect on the vascular system. It also stimulates the secretion of endorphins (also known as the happiness hormone) that improves our mood.

  1. Strengthens muscles
When cycling, use almost all the muscles, with the most muscles of the buttocks, quadriceps, and muscles in the leaves. Because of the upright posture, the abdominal muscles also help to help balance, and we also use the muscles in the arms and shoulders.

  2. Facilitates various daily activities
The benefits of cycling are transferred to maintaining balance, walking, standing, endurance and climbing stairs, says Dr. Safran-Norton. All kinds of physical activity will become easier thanks to cycling.

  3. Helps strengthen the bones
Dr. Safran-Norton says activities such as pedaling in which the body has to resist increase bone density. Reduced density is not a negligible problem as it can lead to osteoporosis.
Harvard University School of Medicine advises that we consult a physician before beginning intensive cycling if we have heart problems, arthritis, or thin bones.
If you have osteoporosis, consider riding a tricycle that is more stable than a bicycle. If you recently had a fracture, do not ride your bike at all until you recover, as a new crash could aggravate an existing injury, Safran-Norton believes.
