These days of record heat in the Southwest are really making life miserable. Plus the lack of rain and turned the landscape tinder-dry. Another easy day for a walk - just to miserable for a run.
I went out for my run in the early afternoon so the temperature was already in the upper 90s but there was an occasional breeze to make it a touch more tolerable.
The first mile or so was a bit more enjoyable being on the trail through the scrubby area.
Again my right leg bothered me a little bit on the three downhills on my route. I'm glad I had no problem powering the uphill although my pace still isn't too good. I figure that I would have to maintain a pace around this effort for 18 to 20 hours for 6 days if I want to compete in the 6 day at the end of the year.
Previous ultras have shown me that even walking can get difficult after hours and hours of effort so 3 mph can be tough after a day or two. We'll see how I'm feeling in a month or two.
Going to be hot through the weekend but hope to get out for a bit of local prospecting if I can.
