Planting saffron
This weekend with my husband @outlinez we spent at our place outside the city planting saffron.
@outlinez made a great preparation of two beds - with the compost and biochar he prepared. The beds are raised - for better drainage.
I distributed the bulbs by size and planted the big ones and the smaller ones in separate beds.
The bulbs are planted at a depth of 7 to 15 cm. The largest, I planted them at a distance of 10 cm and a depth of 12 cm. Row spacing 15 cm.
Bulbs planted deeper give fewer flower buds and daughter bulbs, but the resulting saffron is of higher quality.
I planted the smaller bulbs at a depth of 10 cm.
Flowering begins in autumn, about 40- 50 days after planting the bulbs. I can't wait for the moment to come when they bloom.
