#SublimeSunday Indeed!

What a day!

What a weekend! I can’t remember early April being this nice. Over 18 Celsius for the last while and things are starting to bud after not that long a winter, all things considered.

text16.png

I avoid raking and let the flowers grow, weed or otherwise. If you imagine yourself as first of the bees boldly waking up after a dormant period, starved and weak, I am sure you would celebrate discovering a bunch of early dandelions.

text16.png

The lilies are already busting out and I can’t wait until they are proudly lofting their exotic orange blooms a couple months from now.

text16.png

I will have to assemble a proper garden journal post as there are so many things popping and budding early. Of note, 2 different varieties of my lupins are already back, which makes me 5% as cool as @lynds.

I had a chance to change a couple lights in the house, train some jiu jitsu in the early afternoon, and meet up with my buddy from the multicultural association. We were teaming up to do some food basics shopping for someone in need. Taking an hour or so out of what could be a lazy Sunday is definitely worth it.

text16.png

I celebrated the end of a 5k+ step day with a nice rum drink in the garden. My hockey team is not doing so well recently but everything else is looking up.

Nothing like a #sublimesunday as a great beginning of a productive and fun week.

I adore dandelions and all “weeds”.

When I was 17 I had a job at a respectful motel. My boss’s native language was not English, and she knew 7 languages (that was pre modern internet and apps, so all the more impressive to a 17y girl). Bridgette, my boss, had also been living in Canada for a short while.

One day, I was asked to weed the gardens. Bridgette had walked outside in time enough to say, “don’t pull that! It isn’t a weed”. It was a weed. I was grasping a tall, thick bunch of dandelions. Of course, I told this confused little woman that they “were” in fact weeds.

To which she said, “I have travelled the world and seen so many flowers. This flower grows freely in your country so you think of it as a bad weed. In other place I’ve been, this flower doesn’t exist. Everywhere else, it would be a beautiful flower. “ (massively paraphrasing what she said).

She was right. A strong, resilient, free growing flower is still a flower. That moment changed my life.

Your flowers are beautiful and the bee will be thrilled. Thank you for not being a selfish human and allowing nature to nurture.

Indeed!

When you refer to them as native plants, you have more mercy and know that you are perhaps the invasive species.

Nothing like a little warmth and sun to have things popping up all over the place, it helps to put winter in the rearview mirror.
More often than not, when I read your blog, somewhere in it is a gentleman lending a hand to others.
The community you live in should be thrilled to have you as a neighbor.

Oh man that is high praise coming from you!

It is amazing to find a place where you simply have to make time for the opportunities to improve the community. Working on another one this week helping the recently shuttered restaurants and rewarding front line workers. What a great way to contribute!

I had to stop posting all the early blooms and buds so that I would have some left for a garden post!

Gotta live the lifestyle!

Sounds like a pretty damn good Sunday to me man. I have been loving the blooming of the flowers all over the place. We actually just saw our first bumblebee yesterday, poor thing was frantically searching for something to land on and feast, with nothing in the area. We are going to be doing some planting of our own in the coming few days once we visit the farm that just reopened for the season. They have some pretty great flowers for great prices so we love to help them out.

Topping the day off with helping others is a wonderful thing man! Appreciate you helping others!

You know, when you help others passively, you feel pretty good about it and know helping is good for your soul. When you help a little more actively, it doesn't even feel like helping. Just a bunch of easy decisions and time well spent is my idea of a good time.
