Sublime Sunday in the Garden
I love ending the week enjoying the great outdoors and amassing steps and stories for #sublimesunday.
After waking up late, my schedule was packed full of procrastination and chin scratching and coffee. Then, it was off to the garden center after running a couple inane errands. The mission was to get my little one out of the house, breath in some fresh air, and search for some dangerously hot pepper sprouts.
This place is so much fun to walk through as you are so blissfully surrounded by plants which SURELY must be producing soul inspiring amounts of oxygen. The beginning of May is still early for the garden veggies but there are rows and rows of perennials and hanging baskets which make for some fun photography.
After the shopping trip, I ran out of procrastination supplies so I had to break down and mow the lawn for the first time this year. I left the front yard long and full of dandelions so that the bees had their first meals of the year. Fair warning, you buzzers have 1 more week!
Yesterday, the forecast didn’t look so promising. Today, it went up to well over 20celcius and the sky was clear. Many ducks and geese flew over as I paused for the first time to sit on lawn chair. This creature looked like the size of a hawk and didn’t have the neck of a turkey vulture but it may have been simply a large raven? Headed over to the nature preserve to pick up a snack probably.
Next, I had to find a home for my new blackberry bush. Having added blueberries, raspberries and a strawberry patch in recent years, I thought I might add this one to enhance the variety just a little. Berries prefer acidic soil as far as I know but I have never tested the ph so these plants are simply experiments that have gone well so far.
For those of you who were paying attention and wondering whether my hot pepper mission was a success, this picture will tell you. Followers of my garden blog the past 2 summers will know I attest to the fact that ghost peppers are the meanest, most evil hot things I have ever tasted by far. I have some mild chilies, jalapeños, cayenne and habaneros to balance out a hot sauce.
These 3 monsters will battle it out the meanest pepper on Zeke’s planet. I know reapers and ghosts are of very similar strains of insanity but it will be neat to compare them and discover the scorpion moruga! Booyah!
As I try and do every week, I am capping #sublimesunday off with a big fat IPA and a Dungeons & Dragons session with my fellow sworn- in nerds. We are fighting chokers and gibberish mouthers in a strange futuristic lab and have just met a weird fellow who seems vaguely familiar named Mark Camel

Ah, the garden center! I cannot wait. Another week or so, and it will be safe to plant here in Minnesota and all the garden centers will be crawling with people. We had more snow last week, and you just never know around here. Sounds like you had a really nice Beautiful Sunday.
Hard to imagine I am way up north here and you are north of me!
I hit the garden store early because the REALLY hot peppers seem to sell out early and I missed out last year.
Next year, I will have my own seeds from 3 of the hottest peppers on the planet!

I do remember that you like your hot peppers, and the new ones must be extremely hot if you use jalapeños, cayenne and habaneros to balance out a hot sauce.
Funny story about hot peppers. While I was working for my future father-in-law back in the day, one of his jobs repaving a road was right next to an establishment called The Russian Hall. It was a bar and eatery. The first time we ate lunch there, my wife's uncle, who was a partner with my father-in-law's road building company was chowing down on some peppers that were set on the bar for everyone to enjoy. He was chowing down on those peppers like there was no tomorrow. I figured, what the heck, I'll try one. I put the entire pepper in my mouth and started to munch away. The dam thing was so hot my eyes started to water. While my mouth was on fire, he tells me to drink some water to wash it down and cool off my mouth. As soon as I did that, the heat from the pepper doubled and her uncle was in stitches the entire time. Once he caught his breath from laughing so much, he handed me a piece of bread which helped a little. Little did I know that drinking water was going to do just the opposite, make the pepper even hotter. We still laugh about that to this day.
Blackberries are a great addition to any garden.
I'm not sure if the plants you purchased have thorns on them, but last year I found out from @splatts that you can purchase plants with no thorns.
