Don't Get Caught

A new sport possibly? I wouldn't really call it that though even though believe it or not it has got professional athletes now. This game is taking off with arenas and teams popping up all over the world. There is a World Championship already with teams competing for titles and prize money. I honestly think it is a little crazy for what it is worth. Prize money is not huge at this point, but who knows what could happen.

When we were kids most of us played Tag or Red Rover or Bulldog depending on where you lived as basically they are the same game with the same type of rules. Out of all of them the aim is to not get caught or tagged. This is basically an adult version of that game with some obstacles thrown in.

Each team consists of 5 players and the team that is "on" has to tag the opponent withing 20 seconds to obtain the point. The team evading the on team has to use the obstacles to avoid the other person without getting injured. I know I am a little mental when it comes to games and some of he moves these guys do I would probably knock myself out or decapitate myself jumping into an unseen bar.

This is an adrenaline filled game where the course can be set up basically anywhere as you don't need too much space. I am all for people getting exercise and creating something different but this to me isn't a professional sport as there is not much to it really.

I think more and more of these types of sports will be created as looking around there is less and less playing areas for kids. A new school has just been developed down the road from where I live and it has only one playing field. Sports is obviously not a priority any more and has taken a back seat which is a huge shame. Looking back I was extremely spoiled with the facilities I had at my disposal.

The 2019 Champions.

When I grew up we had the African Bush on our doorstep in Zimbabwe and a group of us played tag on an unused /abandoned Second World War airfield base. This was rather extreme as our tag game would last for hours and it was not only avoiding the chasing team, but also what lurked in the tall Elephant grass we were hiding in. We were only about 6 or 7 at the time playing barefoot without a care in the world. Thinking back I probably wouldn't walk through that tall grass now as I have seen what kinds of things live there lol yet at the time we didn't care even though we encountered quite a few things.

Seems like a really good way to accidentally knock some teeth out to me! It is amazing what they will think of.

I've seen some of the championships. This looks incredible, and I wish it got more attention than it does. These guys are very fit, and they'd be the sort of role models that kids can and should look up to.
