Homesteady Actifit: August 3 2019

Playing around with actifit. Awesome to see that you can post the previous day now. That was a part of why I stopped posting with it before.

Yesterday was intense. I worked a double, and Melissa and the kids stayed at her mom's. I was expecting them to be home in the morning, so the chickens stayed cooped up a few hours longer than normal. I stressed over it and probably drove home too fast, but the chooks are good to go.

After work, I ran and got chicken feed. Today, the birds are looking healthy and happy. The bigs usually chill under the coop for most of the day and explore in the morning and evening. Smart chooks. The littles, led fearlessly by TB, trapse almost constantly. They always go to bed with full crops. Hopefully full of bugs :)

I stopped at a cemetery too that I found nearby. It's got a lot of the original pioneers of this town buried in it. And a few small children from that period. The landmark marker said the oldest grave was from 1890 I think. Some of the older headstones have understandably broken and fallen over. For some reason that makes me want to start a project to restore them.

That baby was eleven days old. Kinda tugs at my heartstrings a bit. There were numerous children like that buried there. The most recent grave was from 2018, an army veteran. So it's gonna be a pretty historically rich place.

There were lots of trees there, though it was a plot cleared out of the forest. One tree at the entrance had a snakeskin in it. I looked and listened, and discovered a beehive there too, in a hollow part of the tree. I didn't get a pic because it was too far up. I'll have to go back with a ladder and try my luck lol

Anyways. Today promises to be much less eventful, and tomorrow I'm working two shifts again! An extra thousand bucks will help a lot with our debt. It might pay off the smallest of our four remaining debts. Exciting!

Hope y'all have a great Saturday. Thanks for reading :)

Oh, Nate, I do worry about those double shifts and driving.....Just re-read the "Why We Sleep" book and the part about falling asleep driving scares the bejesus out of me....

Glad the birdies are doing well. :))

I can't quite explain it, but I haven't fallen asleep driving in a long time. Of course, it only takes the one time, but I'm doing better at staying awake when sitting. I used to fall asleep driving all the time, double shift or not lol not for long periods, but like a dozing off.

It is very scary though. Maybe I just got scared enough to stay awake.

At least today's double is split up. Bout to go in and work first shift. Come home, sleep, then go work third shift. It's a dumb weird schedule, but industrial work is dumb and weird, so whatever. It's a stepping stone.
