Mark Hunt's Lawsuit against UFC and Brock Lesnar dismissed

avatar

The suit began shortly after UFC 200, where Lesnar and Hunt met in the main event in what ended up being predictably boring main event anyway.

Lesnar ended up winning on points and i would imagine that at least one of the judges had to be woken up to turn in the score cards... my money is on Sal D'amato. Seriously, the fight was really boring because neither of these fighters have many weapons at their disposal. Brock is simply a strong giant, and Mark Hunt has a vicious haymaker. If you are fighting Mark Hunt and are bigger than he is, all you have to do is avoid him at range and get him to the ground where he is all but useless. That is exactly what Lesnar did for 3 rounds.

guys that do takedowns over and over and then accomplish nothing while on the ground really tick me off

The controversy begins because there was something of a conspiracy to get Lesnar past the obligatory drug testing before the fight, presumably because they knew he would fail it. After the fight, Lesnar had failed 3 consecutive drug tests, one sample of which had been collected before the fight on July 9th, 2016.

While the victory was overturned (into a no-contest) Lesnar's purse was relatively unaffected as he was only fined 10% of it. Hunt may have been a little bit greedy in his desire to have the entire 2.5 million dollar purse transferred over to him. He also sued Dana White and UFC for their suspected involvement in the cover-up of banned substances. Basically, he is saying that everyone knew that Brock was juicing and no one did anything to prevent him from doing so.

The substance in question is clomiphene, which is a product used for many things but in the case of athletes it is used to combat ill-effects of steroid use. Jon Jones was busted for using the same product.

Hunt was paid $700,000 to lose this fight and well, it was a real snooze-fest anyway. The "highlight" reel, when i first saw it seemed like a joke because there aren't really any highlights in there.

The US District judge in Nevada ruled in favor of the UFC and no further action is allowed. Mark is obviously upset about this but at least from my perspective he should have aimed a bit lower than to try to take everything. I would be willing to bet that if it was money he was after, Zuffa Entertainment, UFC, and Dana White certainly have deep pockets. However, Hunt made this entire ordeal very public and that probably isn't the right way to approach a megalomaniac like Dana White. Hunt and the UFC honored Hunt's contract and he went on to have 5 more fights with the organization, of which he lost 4.

He is now 45 and it looks like it is unlikely we will see another fight out of the Super Samoan. It certainly wont happen with UFC.

It's difficult to argue with Mark's reasoning here when he says

What message is that sending to the boys and girls who want to be a fighter someday? The message is ‘You just have to cheat like this and it’s OK."

It does seem wrong that Lesnar was only fined 10 percent of his purse for failing a drugs test. I would expect a much bigger fine as steroids allow you to recover quicker compared to someone who is not on them and there is a huge advantage.

but but but... he also got a 1 year ban from a sport that he only fights in once every 2 years. Justice is done!

Sure, but lets be honest here.... He went in against a guy that was juiced up. You go into the ring expecting to get hurt but when someone is using steroids then that adds another danger on top of your decision. While you might suspect something, its on the UFC and the anti drug agencies to protect you.
If UFC knew he was using and still let them fight then UFC should be paying him a shit ton of money.

oh I agree with Hunt, i think he got a bit greedy and made a big mistake by attempting to shame one of the most arrogant people on the planet who just happens to be a billionaire also.

Watch the highlight reel, or try to, i struggled to get through it and that is why i forgot that this match had even happened. I woke up early to watch it also. like crazy early.

he'll still likely come back though. The fact of the matter is that WWE and UFC love the cross promotion and there is big money to be made in it. If Lesner wants another fight for another couple million, UFC will make it happen.

I'm sure they are still quite disappointed that CM Punk ended up being terrible.

This is clearly why they couldn't make the Lesnar DC fight, he is still roided up to the gills. Dirty cheat.

I remember watching a couple of fights with Lessner and none of them were really that exciting. I think when he was getting ready for his UFC stuff, he was practicing at the University of Minnesota facility. My brother in laws brother in law was an assistant wrestling coach there and got to interact with him pretty frequently I think. Dana White is pretty cocky and going at him head on is not the way to try to get things done. I also agree with you about fighters that take a guy down and then do nothing. Very frustrating.

Howdy sir gooddream! I don't follow the sport really but see some clips occasionally. I know Lesnar sure looks impressive, didn't he get into pro wrestling too?
