It will be inefficient to throw all the great players altogether to find the top 10 best.
It is a lot better to do it per era where they dominate the game during their lifetime.
As the game changes you can see how they shine during their years in high level.
The 90s is the time of the Detroit piston and Chicago bulls in my mind.

If you count the winner of the Championship from 1990-1999 you will find
the Pistons, Bulls, Rockets and Spurs. There were many other teams capable
of winning as well but were cut short by the greatness from other teams. Impressive
it can be Utah Jazz was great in the 90s. Trail blazers did bring some drama some years.
Super Sonics had its time as well during that era.

The Magic was a nice team to watch in the 90s. They did reach the Finals and got swept.
Tough to swallow how can a team reach the Finals and not even compete to win one game.
The Suns did shine as well in the 90s by reaching the Finals once. For me it is the best moment
for the NBA and basketball in general. Do you remember the dream team?

I have to say it is primetime basketball for many fans. many of you might consider 2000s as the primetime
years. This is why I will omit many great that you know today and many more great you heard about from
yesteryear.

  • Michael Jordan. I do not think I need to introduce him to many of you. Some call him your highness. Ha ha
He played the game with the most explosive and caring you cannot miss him at all in his prime. He took a beating in the 80s. He matured enough to grab 6 rings in the 90s.
  • Hakeem olajuwon deserved second place for making sure when MJ was absent he took control and grabbed two rings. He is the best post player ever with his height and the way he score with the ball.
  • Scottie Pippen always shines with MJ. As I used to watch him play while MJ is doing the damage he is there to finish things up. They were like two punched in your face. If MJ misses Scottie will get you. Scottie did one play in the Finals that I remember till today. Can't remember which game by now but he threw his body way up to score a basket. It was a dangerous play but he got the basket. Somehow the Bulls were not going to lose when they play together.
  • Dennis Rodman is a product of the bad boys from Pistons. I have seen the best of him with the Bulls. His rebounds prowess is out of this world. While MJ and Scottie are playing classy game, Dennis is the guy playing with tantrum. It was a good tantrum to watch with his hairdo and crazy way of saving the ball. You cannot forget him at all. I remember he scored a three pointer in the Finals.
  • Gary Payton was relentless for his height. They call him the glove. He has great teammates around him. He causes so much trouble for MJ in one Finals.
His quickness and assertive way of playing the game is not seen lately as defense mind with a big load of offense. I remember him as a dedicated guy for his team.
  • Karl Malone was another guy you will love to watch play. His short range can be deadly. The mailman will deliver his ball with crunch time. He could have win a Championship but was cut short by the Bulls playing all in. He has some of the great teammates on the game like John Stockton and hornacek to say the least.
  • Reggie Miller was a player with ability to shoot three like crazy. His physics was not up to par with his toughness. His catch and release way of shooting three was a problem for many teams. It was a tough team to compete cause they play physical basket ball.
  • Dikembe Motumbo has one thing you cannot forget. Go try to dunk on him. If you get it good luck. If you don't he showed you the wagging finger. Ha ha ha I can't believe myself. Because of time many team try to develop other ways to play again him. He was more a defense guy in the field. He even blocks MJ.
  • Shaquille Oneal was a special big guy in the league in the 90s. Most remember him in the 2000s. He started crafting his game in Orlando with Penny Hardaway. He almost took one then. He was huge and somehow unstoppable at scoring. I think Orlando was too small of a market for his greatness.
  • David Robinson is a tall guy that play the game to win. For some instant he played it way too nice. He got a ring in 1999 with the help of Tim Duncan. David the admiral shows us what consistency should be. Spurs was a force coming to overpower the next decade.

I am certain you could have your list of top 10 players that marked the 90s. 70% of the guys I pick could easily be part of your list as well. It was the golden age of basket ball. It is the era of the dream team of 1992 that bring gold to the Olympic games.
It was a time where basketball was a sport you have to be a fan even though you do not understand the game. Apparently a lot of change but the fundamentals remain strong to this day.
Please share your list in the comments with me.

It is difficult to be left with only 10 players from that decade. I would add two more who were extraordinary as well.
Charles Barkley and John Stockton

John Stockton is one of the best point guards ever. He didn't score too much, but produced a ton with his passing, and shot 50% from the field!

Well said I should find a way to add Charles Barkley and Stockton but no room
for my top 10. There are more than 10 and I can go on and on easily 50 guys could make the list.

I’ve heard of everyone, but it is funny how some get infinitely more media attention than others and it alters perceptions of how people view players from that era now. I am a motumbo fan as he played for the sixers and went to Georgetown, his son is going there this year I wonder if he’ll live up to his dad’s hype

Motumbo with his swaging finger is a trademark for everyone trying to dunk on him.
