My gibbering plus Actifit: September 28 2019

avatar

Last night went reasonably smoothly. We had the right staffing levels for a change and were able to get done and out on time.

1 shift left.

I'm sure that the 3 people that actually read my daily Actifit report are probably sick of hearing about it, but after tonight I am free of management responsibilities. After 8 years on salary, tonight is my last night.

I'm getting back about 10 hours a week on average, with many weeks being significantly more than that, to spend with my family. The drop in pay is not major, but the drop in stress levels certainly will be. I'm usually that guy in a workplace that quite a few people go to if they need help, and some people take advantage of by passing over their own tasks. The bloke who's effort is generally unnoticed until they are gone.

It's going to be very interesting to see how people react when I start saying no.

See you all tomorrow, on my own personal "freedom day".

🥳🥳🥂🍻🍺🥳🎆🎇✨🎉😁😎😁👍👍👍

Awesome job on your @actifit steps! It will take some time for folks to realize you don’t do what you used to at work. You also might find you falling back without realizing it, into that role. Stress isn’t good, so this sounds like a much needed change. Enjoy it!😎

Yes, it will be an adjustment for everyone. I am going to have to get better at saying no also, its usually something I don't do often enough.

Thanks for visiting my post.

Sounds like an amazing and very positive change, @jk276. I’m that person at my job too. Pretty amazing that you found a way to switch things up and take back your life energy so you can spend more time with family!

I haven’t hit that point yet where I need to make any sort of drastic changes (and a cut in pay is not an option since I have a child in college), as I love the work I do, but I am inspired by this. It’s so easy to become that crutch — that go-to person who gets taken advantage of — and the one who sacrifices their own non-work goals to keep all the plates spinning on the job.

Part of it is fortunate timing. A workplace restructure made my position redundant. I had been trying to figure out a way to step off salary for the last two years, and then this comes along with a nice little compensation attached.

I was often the one getting looked down on for not getting all my tasks done, even though I may have helped 6 other people complete theirs.

Awesome mate only one shift left. I know exactly what you are saying over worked and majorly under appreciated. I have left jobs and find out later from friends still worker there that the boss had no idea how much work I did until I was no longer there. Sucked in old bosses one even had to replace me with 3 people and all I wanted was a small pay rise after being there for 6 years. Now he was paying 3 times the wages lol idiot.

My store manager I have now does appreciate what I have been doing, this has been forced upon him too. That said, my position is being absorbed by all the remaining managers doing one night a week each. They are in for a shock.😉

Thanks @fleur, sometimes the best decisions are the ones other people take out of your hands. I've wanted to take this step back for a while, and having it enforced (with some nice compensation) is the perfect outcome.
