Manchester United Clueless Yet Again, No Shot On Target Against Wolves. Wolves Vs United Review.

(Edited)

It was yet another embarrassing performance from United, as they played away to Wolves and couldn't hit the target throughout 90 minutes. Disappointing!!! That shows the cluelessness in United's attacking midfield position and forwards. It was a classic boring game with no big talking points apart from the 2 times VAR played a crucial role in deciding the scoreline of the game. Let's jump into a brief review of the game. Wolves Vs United.

Note: This review is from United point of view

Starting Line-Up

7 changes were made from our previous starting 11 against Arsenal. Romero, Ashley Young, Williams, Pereira, Mata, Chong and Greenwood, all started. The likes of De Gea, Martial, Shaw and Martial were completely rested as they weren't on the bench. Fred, who I think needs a lot rest was on the bench, same as Rashford and Wan Biassaka. United is a position where quality players are needed. I watched Manchester City's FA Cup game against Port Vale. Their Team B is as good as their team. I do think they don't have main team and team B, because the players are all have great quality. With United if a player in our first isn't playing, he will be missed greatly. We are feeling the impact as Pogba and Scott are out injuried, United Midfield is a complete mess now. To be frank, is Scott a top class player, can he be in starting 11 for City, Liverpool, Barcelona, Juventus. The answer is NO!! United management should start asking themselves this question, can these players start for these big clubs? If No?? Sell them and buy players, that can play for big teams. That's the only way United can get back to their glory days.

Big Attempts

There were very few clear attempts created in the game. 24 attempts were made in the game, 12 each from both sides and only 2 of the 24 attempts were on target.

Early in the game, Romero proved his quality as he made a superb save to keep the game level. Apart from that clear chance from Matt Doherty, no big chance was made from both side. I believe Romero should be given more chance to prove himself as De Gea has been making silly mistakes. Romero has been having some outstanding records. You can check his records from the image below 👇.

Around the 58th minute, Mata played a fantastic freekick that had beaten the Wolves Keeper(Ruddy) but were just inches away from goal. That was United's closest attempt to till that moment in the game. Ole made 2 changes to improve his attack, as he took off James for Rashford and Mata for Fred. Minutes late, Rashford found himself in a promising position to change the scoreline, but he was way too slow to take his shot, which got deflected and hit the top of the bar. That's was the closest United got to scoring a goal in that game.

Minutes to the end of the game. Raul Jimenez struck the bar with a thunderous strike from an impossible angle(don't worry the highlights of game is below).

VAR Controversy

VAR played a vital role in the scoreline of this game. There were two instances in which VAR was called upon during the game. In all, I think VAR didn't favour United.

The first instance was in the first half, when Williams was brought down in the box. I actually don't know why United wasn't given a penalty. It was clear and obvious. Williams touched ball before the defender and that should have been a Penalty any day, anytime. VAR has been very controversy in England. Maybe is because the referee on the pitch rely on VAR officials to take a decision, if there was a VAR screen in the stadium where the referee on the pitch could check for himself and conclude on what decision he will take(how it is done is other leagues) it will reduce the controversy of VAR in England. VAR was wrong not to have given that penalty. Here is a video of a top class football analyst on the controversy VAR decision.

The second instance was in the second half, when Doherty thought he had nodded his team to next round, only to discover that his goal was disallowed immediately by the referee. VAR was called upon. But this time around VAR made the right call. Doherty nodded the ball towards his arm which deflected the ball into the net.

Result

Both sides won't have loved the tie to have ended on Saturday because this is yet another game for both sides, which is not that healthy for the players. United should be the one, more unhappy with the outcome of the game because there are tons of games ahead for United. United plays City on Tuesday on Carabao Cup, Norwich on Saturday, and then play Wolves on Tuesday, then Liverpool on Sunday of that week. United got lots touch features ahead and this additional game is pin the ass for United. Getting the players rested for a week after the Norwich game would have been very very helpful for the players to get back to play Liverpool 8 days after but with this result, they will have to play Wolves within the week.

Best United Performer

I will choose Williams. Williams played incredibly well. Faced with one of the fastest and strongest player in the world, Adama Traore, he still did well to defend him and prevent any goal contribution from him. I find that incredible. With the responsibility to defend a beast(in terms of his strength and speed) he still helped the attack, with some quality runs to support the attack. He's my best player of the game. Shaw should sit up, or he might just lose his spot to the up and coming star.

According to Ole;

Williams' not giving me headaches, he's giving me a nice decision to make. Brandon plays against one of the quickest, strongest wingers in the Premier League [Adama Traore], the one with the most dribbles in the league, and Brandon did fantastic. Source.
