The new menu has arrived at my usual restaurant, it's mushroom season, "the most exciting time of the year", it says. There's even a mushroom inspired pudding. I chose the fillet steak with cavolo nero and rosemary roasted potatoes. Beautifully cooked, but the "rich mushroom and porcini sauce" fell a little under par and I never found the truffle butter. There was a strange luminous green smear dried on the rim of the plate, perhaps that had something to do with it. A special recommended wine - grillo - was much better: "a fuller, funky alternative to pinot grigio, delicate herbal note and bright acidity". I thought a slight nutmeg taste. Very nice.

Ahh, mushrooms. They can be very tasty, either added to a dish or just sauteed by themselves.

I am not sure I would want a mushroom themed pudding but that steak looks so good
Hehe, the pudding was "mushroom-inspired". The description sounded fairly innocuous - vanilla and chocolate ice-cream, hazelnut sauce, raspberries and crushed hazelnuts. That steak was good, tender and very tasty and the cavolo nero was good, too - I love dark greens with a good steak. I was too full to try the pudding :)
Ohh inspired not mushroom based and from the description does sound interesting but after that steak I too would have been to full fir a desert
