New plants!

Some of you know we've got a Click & Grow smart garden at home. While I've never been a green thumb or overly fond of growing stuff myself, this garden is absolutely awesome.

Our first set of plants consisted of 3 minitomatoes, 3 basil plants and 3 green lettuces. The lettuce, for obvious reasons, was the first to go. Mostly, we put it on toasts, on fried eggs and even managed to make a few salads out of them. But since the leaves are big, they're delicious, the plants ran out of juice quite soon. We managed to get a few decent harvests though, perhaps a month or two?

I remember contemplating kicking out basil first, to make room for something new. I've never been so wrong in my entire life! Basil, the herb of kings!

The word Basil is derived from the Greek ‘basiikon phyton’ which means ‘kingly herb‘. It had been considered “royale” to the French. In India the people worship basil more highly than kings; it is regarded as a sacred herb dedicated to the gods Vishnu and Krishna

I'm absolutely satisfied with the basil plants. The harvests just keep on giving and I've discovered a myriad of foods where to use them. I toss them into salads too, but the best dish to use them is various pastas! I'm thinking of starting a new set of basils soon, they will wither and dry soon, but probably giving us a few more nice harvests first.

They've entangled with minitomato plants a bit, so perhaps I've managed to accidenally eat a tomato leaf or two as well with the basil leaves :P

But no more tomatoes, at least not in the winter. Apparently, they need more light. We have a bunch of tomatoes hanging there, but they're all green and such, but a bunch of leaves are already drying out. Also they are heavy, so they need to be constantly managed and tied to the frame of the garden.

But as you can see, we have a few new plants. Rucola, one of my favorite herbs, I could eat it all day long. Put it on a sandwich, in a salad, use some quality oils - it's delicious. I believe everyone doesn't call it rucola, perhaps you know it by it's other name - arugula. It's the first plant that sprouted as well from the new set.

then we have parsley, which is delicious on many foods as well. Sandwiches, hot plates - you name it, you try it yourself.

And last but not least - we have coriander. Don't know what to make of this one yet, I know some soups taste good with it, but I'll need to do some experimenting first.

I can't believe I'm so excited about plants!

Is it just me, or does it look like the plants are growing in a spaceship? They look pretty healthy.

Haha, I guess they remind a bit of a spaceship botanic bay. Now just need a labcoat and some suspicious fumes emanating from the area :)
