What a Football Season

in #premierleague2 months ago (edited)

Who would have told that at time of the year the football season wouldn't be over by now? Certainly not me.

The current pandemic has definitely changed the way things work in football. Nobody would have expected to see Liverpool winning their first premier league title or Everton bid farewell to Leighton Baines with an empty stadium.

In this post I'm going to talk about my impressions of this season

Best Performances

Liverpool winning the league is the confirmation of Klopp's project. Chelsea did also a great job considering their transfer restrictions.

In Germany Bayern is also looking strong as always. This time with a more rejuvenated squad, for Dortmund and Leipzig it will be an uphill battle again.

Fallen giants are back

This year sees the return of some fallen giants. Manchester United returning to the champions league with an impressive post-break form. Bruno Fernandes did make a big difference after all.

In Italy the Milan teams showed an impressive form. Inter almost snatched the title from Juve and Milan will see its return to International football mostly thanks to Zlatan.

Surprises

This year also brought us many surprises.

Wycombe Wanderers won the promotion to the championship ahead of the likes of Portsmouth and Sunderland. Akinfenwa is going to play on the championship.

Leicester lost steam after the break. Fifth place is overall an amazing result, considering they aren't part of the big six.

Sheffield United was promoted this season, many considered them to be Relegation material. Not only they ended in the first half of the table, they were two points behind Arsenal.

Atalanta not only qualifies to the Champions League for the second time in a row, they can still win the current season.

Lazio ended in third and had a chance to win the league. Immobile had a tremendous season.

Union Berlin achieved promotion this season. The team from Ost Berlin had the same amount of points as their Berlin rivals.

Disappointments

Arsenal didn't deliver this season, Arsenal showed some signs of improvement in the end but it wasn't enough to get them into European Football. Abysmal considering their spending.

In Italy Juve would be a disappointment. They almost lost the Scudetto and were eliminated by Lyon. Napoli on the other hand is going to miss European football after many seasons in the champions and Europa League.

Espanyol goes to the second division after 27 years. They ended up dead last while playing Europa League, not the first time this happens in Spain. They weren't able to cover for Borja Iglesias.

Schalke ended up in 12 this season. For a team that usually achieves better results and is playing international football this isn't a good result.

Watford is in my opinion this season's biggest disappointment. Their squad was Premier League material, clearly the management must rethink the way they handle their team. Now they are going to face Akinfenwa in the championship.

End of a great run

For Bournemouth this season marks the end of a great run. A team that due to its size and finances was pushing well above its weight. Unfortunately the duo of Fraser and Wilson didn't work this season

Steem Fantasy League

The steem Fantasy League was also affected by the events of this season. The Pandemic and the switch to the Hive Blokchain meant that the project was abandoned. After all we're using Hive now and the switch to Hive wasn't smooth at all.

Here you can see the standings

In the last Gameweek Ilyas Tarar FC got into the top 10 with an amazing points haul of 103 points

It was a close run at the top. The difference between first and second place was only four points. Smiley Fries almost pulled a massive comeback but fell short of the crown.

Congratulations to InSaneInTheMembrane for winning the league!
