Sport and friends

I always liked martial arts and when I was smaller I did a little bit of this and a little bit of that but nothing sticked.

All my friends were playing football so I tried that and realized very fast that this is no sport for me.

I had exaclty 0/10 fun.
Especially while I just started they were already playing for some time and the trainer would have to put me to the "bambinos". An insult when you are 8.

Basketball was a sport I really enjoyed for some time but the sport which caught me was skateboarding.

I liked everything about it. From actual skating over watching 411 tapes with friends to the cloths.

This was more than a sport. It was a lifestyle.

After that came Muay Thai. Totally different but I loved it as well and still do even if I dont train anymore.

While for some martial arts can be a lifestyle, it was never for me somehow.

Especially in BJJ you meet people who choose that as their lifestyle and to be honest I am a bit jelous.

Not sure if a lifestyle catches you and you just want to ride with it or if you work your way into it....

After thinking over that for a couple of minutes I actually think you work your way into it and it becomes kind of a circle.

You meet new friends, you train together, you talk about your sport and everything is fun and you look forward to train again...

You motivate each other in the lows and push each other to higher highs.

at the age of 9, my mother enrolled in the basketball course. at the time, so let's talk about 1992, if you didn't practice football, everything else was sport for women, a small town mentality. I really enjoyed myself for those months in which I played basketball but then my coach had to leave and then nobody replaced him. fortunately, today everything is different.

Really basketball was seen as a women sport? I actually thought everybody would make fun about the WNBA at least Family Guy taught me that.

But not everyhting was good in the "good old" times :-)

Yeah, unfortunately 30 years ago only football was spoken and played in Italy, especially in small country towns. Now everything has changed. for example last year they opened a free basketball camper for all the kids

I will never forget the skateboarding time and the 411 vhs. Good old times. That´s one of many reasons why I started with surfing, it gives me the feeling of former times.

I would also like to start with kickboxing or Muay Thai

One old Latin quote says: "Mens sana in corpore sano!" which can be translated as: " A healthy mind in a healthy body!"
No matter what sport you choose to practice the most important thing is that you are following a path of healthy life style and this brings with it the satisfaction of meeting new people and have great topics about that particular sport and felling much better after every single practice.
I like to run now just to keep myself in shape but when i was a teenager i was playing a lot of volleyball and basketball and really got stuck with basketball as i am watching non stop NBA... i even start to post a lot about it!
Like every other niche of common interest, sport is one that really brings a lot of people together, and a lot of times makes friendships that last for a lifetime!

I was passionate about martial arts since I was a kid. Before SportsTalkSocial, I didn't talk much about martial arts on Steemit. Sometimes I made some posts about it.

Looks like it's a new beginning on Steem journey with SportsTalkSocial. Keep in touch with like-minded people matters. Thank you @flipstar for sharing this.

I tried skateboarding once, fell flat on my face and never dared again, and funnily enough they just set up a skatepark just 5 minutes from my home. lol

Basketball was it for me, wasn't like a pro thing though. Just like you said it was those hours with friends that made it so addictive

Yeah I totally agree with your point having a circle of friends who shares the same interest in a particular sports would likely pull you in a much livelier conversation or maybe you will enjoy it better than you alone.

Sports is the only thing that push us all together we may be slow to start off with but once there is team work nothing is impossible

I remember my younger days, me and my friends also spent time mastering martial arts but unfortunately we never did. But at least we have the basics.

I'm pretty stoked with football :). I'm not really a player but I love the game! I don't know why.

Skateboarding is also a great one too. 😀
