The "Coach" With No Brain And No Clue

This video gives you an idea of how smart this coach is and if he had a brain cell it would be lonely.

When a coach takes charge of a national Team you would think he has the credentials to improve the players and standard of play. Maybe some tactics to outwit the opposition and some fresh ideas. Rudolf Straueli's ideas were to bully the team into submission and that would include the opposition as well.

To help improve the team before the 2003 World Cup he had a brainwave and that was to take the team away on an team building camp. That sounds like a good idea to bring the lads together and get some spirit going, but he had a different plan.

What a happy bunch of guys. Look like they could win the World Cup with this one.Must have thought the "coach" had gone mad.

The plan was to break the players down individually, mentally and spiritually and then bring them together as a team. His idea of fun in the bush is not what I would call a team building exercise, but an act of cruelty.Players had to crawl naked through the bush over thorns followed by an extended "ice bath" of over two hours in a freezing cold dam. Pumping rugby balls underwater and if they refused guns were pointed at them. Players were constantly threatened with punishment if tasks weren't done and I am sure the threat of being booted out the team was one of them. I wish the players had all walked as that is what a proper team would have done.

The players were too scared to stand up and tell the coach to shove it. When it all came out after the failed World Cup this camp idea was thrown at Straueli and he was fired. What make sit even more bizarre is he was given another role in rugby looking after promising juniors at the Sharks. Does this guy look like the daddy figure who can help players if this was his idea of team building? What this guy knows about man management and getting the best out of a team is dangerous.

His record for any of you that are interested is that he coached 23 games and won 12 losing 11. The 12 games they won besides two which were against Australia were all against weak teams an some were in the group stages of the World cup against Uruguay and Georgia. He has to go down as joint worst coach along with Allister Coetzee who was a total clown and a puppet of the South African Rugby Union.
