Running in and with cold

avatar

Normally I would post this on @exhaust, but the site is down for now and I want to log it anyway. I am not going to hassle @mstafford too much as he does a great job generally. I will post it to the Steem Running Community instead. I am planning to make more use of communities as there are rumours that Steemit will move it out of beta soon and I hope Steempeak do too.

Someone has started an endurance sports club at work to help people find others to run, cycle or swim with. One of the suggestions was for a handicap race league. The idea is that we run a 5km course with the faster runners going later and you get ranked on when you finish. I know some of them are much faster than me. We actually did something like this when I was at school. I was not at all sporty back then and would be one of the first to start. I sometimes managed to hold onto that lead. I have some regrets that I did not get more into running when I was younger.

I was looking at potential courses and using a site that let you measure distances on a map it looked like this loop would be about right. It was just over when I ran it today. We could adjust the start and finish to make it more exact.

Run

It was a bit chilly out. High winds had been forecast, but it was not too bad. I have had a cold for nearly three weeks now and it is lingering. I reckon my breathing capacity is somewhat compromised. Despite that the pace was not terrible. The course is fairly flat with some dips to go through various underpasses. Stevenage is a mess of big roads and roundabouts, but has lots of foot/cycle paths to get around. I just had to cross a few roads and industrial estate entrances.

This may not be the course we use, but I look forward to the races. These things push you to new levels.

Oh man! You don’t know how I envy you these days.
I can’t maintain a consistent running plan lately, so much work...😥

I am trying to get back into a routine after a couple of weeks with hardly any running. Luckily work is not too busy, but that may change in a few months.

Glad you're getting back into it.

I remember those staggered starts. I'm not a fan, I prefer the 'race yourself' idea of the Park Run.

I find running club routes are genius for runs with the fewest stopping points!

Well it can get people down if they always finish last. Only practical if not too many runners of course. We shall see how it goes as we are just doing it for fun.

I was just thinking this morning about how important it is to blow your nose before you start your workout. I can't tell you the number of times I forget and then I find myself struggling to breathe in the middle of my work out :) Nice job on your run!

Being able to breathe well is obviously crucial. I'll be glad when my lungs are working properly again.
