My Actifit Report Card: October 12 2019

Today I rode the e-bike down to the course I lost the Atlas mid-range disc at and searched for some time and found it! I'm happy that I got it back.

I played my son this evening and used the Atlas on one of those shorter shots that you have to curve the disc around some trees on. I threw it just right and it landed right next to the basket for a birdie! It was a nice welcome back shot.

I think looking for discs is kind of part of the game. It gives you a lot of steps anyway. I'm getting slightly better at not throwing them so much in places where I can't find them but it happens.

I was close to the 10K in steps this evening so I paced around a bit until the Fitbit rang.

Here's a picture of my bag with the discs that I typically carry:

The above picture was modified a bit with Photoshop Express and reminds me a bit of what things look like with my glasses off. (All kind of warm, just a bit fuzzy and dreamy looking, lol)

I've settled in on around twelve discs but I do like to play a game with just a couple discs sometimes and not always the ones in the bag. Plus I move things around a lot bringing some discs out of retirement and into the bag.

I organize the bag in different sections with the most stable to the least stable in each type of disc. I think this helps me when I am trying to figure out what disc to throw for a particular shot.

Just for fun here's what I'm currently using:
(The number is the speed of the disc)

Distance Drivers

  • 13 Star Shryke - This is my most stable disc. Sometimes when it is windy I put in the speed 14 Colasses instead of this one. I mostly use it for throws into a headwind.
  • 13 G-Star Shryke - This flips just a bit more and is broken in just right. The G-Star plastic is great for rainy days and grips just right with this aged disc.
  • 12 G-Star Turn - Typical distance driver I use. It turns up for my power but the plastic has not seasoned enough to provide that really nice grip and perfect flippiness.
  • 11 Pro Wraith - Nice for shorter shorts where you want it to flip it up just a bit and shape the shot.

Control or Fairway Drivers

  • 9 Metal Flake Thunderbird - Very stable and not used for much except where I really want a lot of fade or some shaped shot.
  • 9 Tobu Charge - My go to fairway driver. Does nice s-shots if thrown hard and has reasonable distance. Flies very straight with a predictable fade at the end for my medium to medium high power. Low power throws can be a bit hard to predict with this disc though.
  • 9 Star Lite Valkyrie - They don't make this material any more. I like the light weight and you really don't need to throw it hard to get performance out of it. It does nice shaped shots.
  • 7 Maul - This one is getting flippy but I like it a lot. It can really sail a long way if it flips up so you need to not power it too much.
  • 8 Lucid Witness - This is my flippy roller disc. It can travel a long way but is kind of hard to predict where it will go, both in the air and the ground. If I'm not careful this one will flip all the way over and land on its top on a forehand flick.

Mid-range

  • 5 Atlas - Not forehand flick friendly but goes very straight if thrown correctly backhand for me.

Putters

  • 2 R-Pro Aviar - My usual shorter distance putter. This sticks nicely on most surfaces and doesn't roll away. The plastic is really soft and flexible and provides good grip.
  • 2 SSS Magic - This flips up and is less stable than the Aviar. I like it for longer distances of maybe fifty to one hundred feet. The plastic is stiffer but still very grippy and it doesn't roll much after it hits either. (Maybe a bit more than the Aviar) It usually works better in the wind for me.

Thats what's currently "In the bag".

Im glad you didnt lose another disc. There is really a lot to that game that I'm sure the average person would never realize. It's a good way for you to get in all that activity doing something that you really enjoy.

Thank you! It does keep me busy and active. It counters the other things I like doing that make me pretty sedentary.

Does the disc golf lands anywhere near you want it to land @lightsplasher but I guess it does by the way they make it with different styles and designs. Soon it will have maybe small batteries to light it up or a beacon if it gets lost :D

Actually the Tobu Charge disc has a beacon that lights up and makes a beeping sound that you can control through blue tooth signal on your smartphone. That has helped me find it a lot. It is one of my favorite discs. I almost lost it a couple of times when it went into wet areas and stopped working. I put some tape over the holes in the cover and that has helped a lot and I've never had trouble since. (I think the holes in the cover were so you could hear it better but I can still hear it okay with tape over the holes.)

You certainly have a lot in that seemingly small bag of yours! And you really are not in the sedentary stage anymore, are you? You really are getting the miles in! I agree that playing hide and seek is part of the game! :)

I saw that Dog-oh is still making his walks and I am so happy to hear that!

I am hoping you have a most wonderful Sunday!

I was going along with the story till my eyes got stuck in the orchid pots. :)

I like the orchids, they seem to be doing okay for me. I've been trying to figure out how much and when to water them though. I'm experimenting with the little piece of root (in the dish) that broke off and trying to see if it will regrow any kind of plant. It is kind of doubtful that it will survive. I grew one of the orchids from pollinating an older plant. That plant got a bit over-watered and didn't survive.

(Edited)

I have always heard they were a little finicky, so I have been reluctant to get one. I'd hate to just buy one and bring it home and kill it right away. LOL !

Many years ago, a couple moved in across the street from where I lived at the time. The man had a little greenhouse built on the back of the house, like a half room, just for orchids. He had a lot of them and knew all the stuff one should know to keep a greenhouse full of them. It was very interesting

I like to see your orchids. Mine just finished blooming. I am a first time orchid owner. How often do most of yours bloom.

Mine just finished blooming too. They bloom maybe once a year for me. It is a bit hard to figure out when to water for me. I think they are sensitive to watering habits and I tend to forget to water them sometimes. They seem to like a little fertilizer once a week or so.
