NFL Week 5 Thursday Night Fantasy Preview

avatar
NFC West division rivals Los Angeles Rams travel to face the Seattle Seahawks. It's hard to call a Week 5 game a must-win, but this game will have massive consequences for the division especially since both teams currently trail San Francisco. It will also have massive consequences for fantasy teams. These are two teams that are full of fantasy-relevant players, which is great heading into a game that Vegas predicts will be high scoring.

General Fantasy Thoughts

Game Flow

The Rams are going to want to throw on a Seattle defense that has been susceptible to the pass all year long. The offensive focus for Seattle will be the run game of course. In an ideal scenario, Seattle chews up the clock by running the ball and letting Russell Wilson do just enough to keep drives moving.

These two strategies are in direct contrast to each other and really depend on the Jared Goff-Cooper Kupp connection. Goff has struggled since defenses figured out not to tip off their scheme until the mic is cut between Goff and Sean McVay. Goff has also struggled on the road. Despite Goff's struggles, he's been effective getting the ball to Kupp who has a great matchup against Jamar Taylor. Taylor leads the league in targets against.

If that connection gets established and the Rams can put up two scores early, Seattle will have to move away from the slower-paced run game and start putting the ball in the air more, which is what I think will happen.

Los Angeles Rams

I like the Rams in this game as the underdogs. Cincinnati's offense shredded Seattle earlier this year and almost pulled off the upset. If Andy Dalton and crew can do that to Seattle, I wonder what McVay and the Rams offense can do - Jared Goff's struggles be damned.

I like all of the Rams WRs(Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods) especially Cooper Kupp. Todd Gurley is in an OKish spot in this one, but will continue to share touches in the backfield. Gerald Everett and Tyler Higbee aren't worth a start in seasonal leagues and are risky fliers in DFS. The Rams defense is also an interesting play with a couple Seattle offensive linemen questionable to start.

Seattle Seahawks

Russell Wilson is always startable. He's so efficient, he doesn't need a ton of pass attempts to put up QB1-type numbers. This game also has the potential to wind up in a shoot out, which can easily net him a 30+ point day.

Chris Carson's usage as a receiving option makes him matchup proof. He may lose some touches to Rashaad Penny and C.J. Prosise, but he's still a fringe RB1/RB2 start.

Tyler Lockett has a tough matchup against Aqib Talib and could disappear from this game if Seattle does manage to get up early. You might have to start him because he can win you a week at anytime, but he's a bit more risky in this game. D.K. Metcalf has been quiet, but is going against Marcus Peters who has been known to give up big plays. He's not startable in season long leagues, but he's worth a few shots in DFS. David Moore is still recovering from an injury, but we've seen his snap percentage increase. He's a very sneaky DFS play.

Will Dissly has been performing really well of late, but he's also gone against several teams that are weak against TEs. He's worth a desperate start in season long leagues and a look in DFS.

I like Zuerlein. He's had at least 2 FGs and XPs in every game this year. There are a lot of ways to jam the studs in. A really aggressive play is to throw David Moore in the Captain spot($900). It opens up a lot of options.

Indeed. In those showdown matchups those are the types of guys you need in that spot. If he hits it's all $
