A Thursday night.

I was surprised myself but why not in these modern times. We need to be openminded about these things and go with the flow.

I'm making a nice hot whiskey as we speak and pretending that it's the weekend.

The reason for the unusual timing is due to the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on tomorrow night in Italy and trying to avoid the clash between the biggest match of the six nations and the Olympics.

This is the first time in the Six Nations era (since 2000) that a game has been played on a Thursday.
The last time a championship match was held on a Thursday was nearly 80 years ago on January 1, 1948: In the old Five Nations, France and Ireland also played in Paris on a Thursday.

Unfortunately for Ireland I don't hold out much hope of a win tonight. Winning away to France is such a tough ask at the best of times but with Ireland struggling for form, missing key players and up against a monster French pack we are outgunned and outclassed.

It's hard to see an Irish win even as an optimistic fan. Now we have some great players and the capability of beating any team on the day but the French team is full to the brim of quality.

It should start off a cracker with both teams bringing huge physicality in the opening quarter but I think that France will get their scores that bit easier and win by 15+ points.

I hope that I'm wrong but that's what my head is saying listening into the commentary live.

On a side note is is nice to see Dupont back in action as he is a class player and a joy to watch when he is going well. Hopefully he saves it for the English match and not tonight.
