I don't think he will last very long. This is not because of ability perse, but I think as manager you need to project authority and confidence. For that, he needs to be successful as a manager first.
I can only see it happen if the fans get and stay behind him 1000%. Only then will star players (if you are inclined to believe they are) will fall in line.
